How to Check Your AC Airflow
At All Temp Co., Inc Air Conditioning, Heating, Plumbing, & Electrical, we often hear about poor AC airflow issues from our Harrisburg customers. While it’s a common issue, there are many possible causes and solutions. Before you give us a call, follow these four simple steps to check your AC airflow. If that doesn’t do the trick, All Temp Co., Inc Air Conditioning, Heating, Plumbing, & Electrical will get someone over to your home to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
1. Is the AC Turned On?
This may sound basic, but it’s surprisingly easy to think your AC is malfunctioning when it’s been accidentally switched off or to the wrong setting. Make sure it’s set to “cool” instead of “fan,” which circulates room temperature air throughout your house. If the thermostat was on the wrong setting, switching it back to cool should improve the airflow.
2. What’s the Thermostat Temperature?
While you’re looking at the thermostat, check the temperature settings. You should see two temperatures: the AC setting and the ambient temperature inside the house. If the AC is set higher than the ambient temperature, it won’t kick on at all. Lower the temperature to see if this restores airflow.
3. Are Your Doors and Windows Closed?
It’s tempting to open up doors and windows to let in a refreshing breeze, but this can cause problems for your AC. If your AC is running while warmer air is entering your home from the outdoors, the AC is going to struggle to keep your house at your desired temperature. Try closing any doors and windows to see if that improves your AC’s performance.
4. Does the Air Filter Need Replacement?
Dirty air filters can severely reduce AC airflow. Summer is an especially hard season on air filters because air conditioners are running nonstop and there’s additional pollen in the air. Be sure to periodically replace your filter to improve airflow.
