4 Common Causes of a Leaky Toilet

If your toilet keeps running, it’s likely because there’s a problem with the flushing mechanism. Here are a few common reasons why a toilet might keep running.

The flapper is not sealing properly.

The flapper is a rubber valve that opens and closes to allow water to flow from the tank into the bowl. If the flapper is not sealing properly, water will leak from the tank into the bowl, and the toilet will keep running. Check the flapper to make sure it is properly seated and not damaged.

The float is not working properly.

The float is a small ball or cylinder that rises and falls with the water level in the tank. Check to make sure the float is not getting stuck or rubbing against other parts of the toilet.

The fill valve is not working properly.

The fill valve is the mechanism that fills the tank with water after a flush. Check to make sure the fill valve is not clogged or damaged.

The chain is too long or too short.

The chain connects the flapper to the flushing lever. Adjust the chain so that there is just enough slack for the flapper to open and close smoothly.
